Founding Director Dr. Katy Emck OBE has spent the last twenty years establishing Fine Cell Work as a charity and social brand which trains and pays prisoners to make hand-embroidered products which are sold to the top of the market. She has also taught for North American universities based in London and worked as a literary journalist. In the earlier part of her career she worked as an actress doing improvised theatre in American and British prisons for the innovative prison theatre troupe Geese Theatre Company.
Fine Cell Work is a charity which makes beautiful handmade products in British prisons. Our unique products have been designed in collaboration with some of the country’s leading contemporary designers and are all hand-produced in limited editions. Teaching prisoners high-quality needlework boosts their self-worth, instils self-discipline, fosters hope and encourages them to lead independent, crime-free lives.
