Undressing the Victorian Lady
Manipulation of textiles during the Victorian era to create a spectacular silhouette is an artform lost in our modern fashion culture. Foundations or underpinnings created this textile art to one of its highest forms in contrived beauty and social correctness.
Fashion is an artform. One of the greatest expressions of creativity and design for each society has been in costume and social traditions. The more mundane our modern dress, the more we are intrigued with the fashions of a more flamboyant era.
Observe the elaborate tailoring, detailing and draping skills as Lady Carolyn appears in an 1872 Victorian ensemble. The tools used to create the fashionable lady included: bustle, cotton, silk and wool all equaling 24 pounds of clothing, add accoutrements and it all combines to become a fashionable Victorian Lady. See it layer by layer as Lady Carolyn genteelly disrobes down to her chemise and drawers.
