Katie Strachan is a largely self taught textile artist, who came to stumpwork embroidery after taking Thistle Threads’ Cabinet of Curiosities course. She is inspired by early modern embroidery and art, with an interest in 17th century English amateur an Flemish professional embroidery Her work seeks to bring together a variety of techniques and inspirations for a fresh take on historic methods and designs. Katie lives and works out of her home on the Peninsula, usually in her library, combining her loves of literature and hand craft.

Hanging Thread: Katie Strachan’s This Lovely Green

This exhibition features stumpwork and goldwork by Katie Strachan. Katie’s work involves literary themes; she is inspired by Marvell’s poem The Garden,most particularly his “green thought in a green shade,” and incorporates this inspiration into her embroideries. This exhibition will display casket panel embroideries, a casket interior with accessories, stumpwork mirror and jewelry box, and some smaller pieces including casket toys and needlework accessories.
