Just add (the illusion of) water and this Mason jar floral arrangement will brighten up any room. This is a three-session class.

Three-Session Class*: September 23 (12 – 3 pm PST), September 30 (12 – 3 pm PST), October 7 (12 – 3 pm PST)

*When you register for Session 1, you’ll be registered for all three sessions

Class length: 9 hours total

Skill Level: Beginner

Class Description: Just add (the illusion of) water and this Mason jar floral arrangement will brighten up any room. This mixed media project provides a contemporary twist on traditional Silk Ribbon Embroidery. In addition to learning several Ribbon Embroidery techniques, students will also learn to create special effects by using a needle weaving technique, and by the specially arranged layering of materials. In class, we will also discuss the juxtaposition of color and how to get those vibrance silks to pop even more!

Supplies: All supplies will be mailed to you before class, you will need to supply your own embroidery scissors and hoop.

About the Educator: After having earned degrees in Textile Design and Marketing from Fashion Institute of Technology, in Manhattan, New York, Marilu Morency’s background includes textile art and design, as well as jewelry and accessory design and manufacturing. Marilu teaches Hand Embroidery courses through colleges in Southern California and was selected for the Santa Ana College 2022 Faculty Profiles in Excellence Creative Expression Award. She has been a magazine contributor and award recipient of local and national juried shows for her paintings, hand stitched mixed media pieces, and beadwork.

Marilu is a juried member and active participant in the Embroiderers’ Guild of America’s Fiber Forum. Her work and projects have been published through the guild’s website and in their Needle Arts magazine.

While gallery and custom work continue to be an important part of her endeavors, Marilu finds particular joy in promoting the art of beading and needlework through teaching others and encouraging them to find their own creative voice.

 

Registration for this class closes 2 weeks prior to the start date in order to allow for the shipment of kits.

Cancellation policy: SNAD will refund tuition less a $25 processing fee up to 3 days (72 hours) prior to class start time. No refunds for cancellations with less than 3 days notification before class start time.
